Did you know that in Orange County, more than 456,000 people are at risk of going hungry sometime each month? Fortunately, we can help. This year, our charity project is to help the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. We’re going to work in their Incredible Edible Agricultural Field in Irvine.
This is going to be fun, and a welcome change from your usual 9 to 5 gig! You can bring friends and family, including children. If someone is willing to help, they’re welcome to join us.
Who is Second Harvest?
The Second Harvest Food Bank is a non-denominational organization that has been working to eliminate hunger in Orange County since 1983. In a typical month, they help feed an average of 200,000 people, including the working poor, children, seniors on fixed incomes, single parents, the disabled, the homeless and individuals experiencing medical emergencies and recent job layoffs.This is an organization that’s really making a difference in the fight against hunger.
What will we be doing?
There are lots of variables in farming, but most likely, we will be gleaning the spring crops. Whatever we do, you’ll feel good, knowing you were able to help.You’ll also have an opportunity to be with members of our group in a casual setting that’s completely different from our regular meetings. Who knows, you just might meet someone who can help you in your regular field.
